our journey

CFA: THE IDEA

Computers For All was founded in April 2022. The concept for CFA, although sparked by a conversation during dinner, was the accumulation of Lucas’ interest in technology, education and sustainability. At the time, he was building his own computer for personal use, and, as he described the process during dinner, he realized it was an uncommon but extremely useful skill. He began searching for a way to give back to the community using his skillset. During the quarantine period, a radio broadcast had revealed that many children were falling behind in their education due to a lack of computers. This insight, combined with Lucas's participation in the school Eco-Club and concern for the environment, highlighted the issue of discarded electronics contributing to environmental degradation. Thus, CFA was born with a mission to refurbish and donate computers, thereby providing access to technology for those in need while promoting sustainability.

receIVING our first donation FROM EVERGREEN

In May 2022, CFA received its first ever donation of eight used computers from Evergreen. This milestone came shortly after CFA was established, with our team actively recruiting members and setting up internal operations and logistics. Although some computers had damaged parts and others required cleaning and maintenance, our team refurbished them to full functionality. This was a crucial learning experience for us, as we mastered the efficient dismantling and assembling of computers to ensure they were fully operational. This first donation was a turning point, transforming CFA from a mere concept into a socially impactful organization.

DONATIONS FROM AUDITEM AND POSITIVO

DONATING TO MEIMEI

Our first delivery was to IAM – Meimei Assistance Institution, a Civil Society Organization (CSO) that has provided social support for over 40 years. Meimei aids children, adolescents, families, and individuals in São Bernardo do Campo and Diadema, areas heavily impacted by drug trafficking and urban violence. By donating 8 refurbished computers to Meimei, we impacted approximately 300 children, giving them access to the internet and invaluable educational resources. This access allows them to engage in digital learning, develop crucial technological skills, and explore the digital world, which is vital for their future success. Meimei has integrated these computers into their educational programs, enhancing their ability to support the community.

NORD ANGLIA social impact GRANT

CFA (Computers for All) is thrilled to announce that we have been awarded the prestigious Nord Anglia Social Impact Grant, securing USD 25,000 for our project. This significant grant will be instrumental in funding the logistical and operational aspects of our work, enabling us to streamline and enhance our donation process. By improving efficiency, we can refurbish and distribute more computers to institutions in need, thereby expanding our reach and impact.
